Dr. Joe
I am Dr. Sarah Chidiebere Joe - a Communication and Media Studies Lecturer and Pioneer Head of the Department of Development Communication Studies at the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
I am also the Team Lead at ELANHUB MEDIA - an online media platform dedicated to the publication of news, entertainment, educational, and inspirational content. In addition, ELANHUB engages in the training and development of future leaders, especially in South-South Nigeria. Our training covers a wide range of media-related courses including News Writing, Crisis Management, Public Speaking, Public Relations, Advertising, Filmmaking/Cinematography, ICT, and more.
I hold a Ph.D. in Communication and Media Studies from the University of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, and a Master’s Degree from the University of Greenwich, London, United Kingdom.
I am primarily interested in researching the intersection of media, politics, and communication. My goal is to gain a deeper understanding of how these elements collectively shape public opinion, influence political conflict, and impact democratic processes. In my research, I place particular emphasis on exploring the concepts of media framing, social media affordances, political conflict, multimodal critical discourse analysis, and political communication. By studying these areas, I aim to uncover the intricate dynamics and effects that arise when media, politics, and communication intertwine.
As part of my service to my country, I served as a Member of the Technical Working Group on Nigeria’s Medium Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) and Nigeria Agenda 2050 Plan.
